Shad programs use a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) and entrepreneurship framework to allow Canadian high school students to develop impactful solutions to the social issues facing their communities. Through its flagship ShadOnCampus summer program, high school students spend a month living on campus at one of Shad’s university partners. There, students take part in hands-on workshops and labs, hear from guest speakers, and collaborate on a social innovation challenge. Through this, Shad participants gain mentorship, learn about post-secondary pathways, and join a national network of over 23,000 alumni.
Our support contributes to:
Access Scholarships: Each year, we support 10 scholarships to offer financial support to promising students to enable them to take part in the ShadOnCampus program.
Shad Leaders Program: To help Shad engage its vast and rich alumni network, we supported the launch of the McCall MacBain Shad Leaders Program, which recruits high-potential Shad alumni who are now studying at Canadian universities as Shad Leaders. Shad Leaders support ShadOnCampus programs in-person through the summer and deliver STEAM programs to local elementary schools in their community. During the academic year, Shad Leaders organize campus chapters, which brings together Shad alumni and other students to engage with young people and university-aged peers through building, broadening, and sharing a passion for STEAM, social change, and community-building beyond Shad’s core summer programs.
